Book Review: Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover

At twenty-two years old, aspiring musician Sydney Blake has a great life: She’s in college, working a steady job, in love with her wonderful boyfriend, Hunter, and rooming with her good friend, Tori. But everything changes when she discovers Hunter cheating on her with Tori—and she is left trying to decide what to do next.

Sydney becomes captivated by her mysterious neighbor, Ridge Lawson. She can’t take her eyes off him or stop listening to the daily guitar playing he does out on his balcony. She can feel the harmony and vibrations in his music. And there’s something about Sydney that Ridge can’t ignore, either: He seems to have finally found his muse. When their inevitable encounter happens, they soon find themselves needing each other in more ways than one…

First off, this book is spectacular and the soundtrack that goes with it is just as amazing. That’s right, there’s actual songs that go with the book! If you remember and loved Griffin Peterson from season 12 of American Idol, then you will be happy to know that he is the one who has taken on the task of putting this book into song. There is an eight song soundtrack that features the title track “Maybe Someday”. I could go on and on about this soundtrack, but there is also a book to talk about too. So, if you’re interested in listening to the music ASAP, then you can buy the album off of iTunes, or go on over to Spotify and let your ears relish in the melodic voice of Griffin Peterson. click here

Maybe Someday, what can I say about Maybe Someday? Well, how about it was a freaking, spectacular, unique, amazing, beautiful story that I couldn’t put down. This book isn’t like anything I’ve ever read. I don’t want to say too much about why it’s so unique because it would be a MAJOR spoiler! Besides this book being unique, it is also a very quotable book. For example…

and...

and...

This story follows Sydney, a twenty-two year old girl that seems to be having a good life. However, she soon finds out that her boyfriend, Hunter, is cheating on her with her best friend/roomie, Tori. It wasn’t a one time thing either, oh no, it’s been going on during their whole two year long relationship. Sydney is devastated about this revelation and soon moves out of her and Tori's apartment. She just needs to find someplace to stay until she can find a place of her own. She isn’t very close with her parents and she doesn’t really have any other friends, but she does have Ridge. Ridge is her neighbor from across the way. They’ve never interacted besides a few occasions on their balconies. Sydney likes to listen to Ridge play his guitar at night when she does her homework. Ridge catches her mouthing lyrics to his songs. There’s just one problem, there aren’t any lyrics yet because he has had some major writer’s block lately. He’s intrigued by Sydney, so he asks her for her number and they start texting back and forth.
Ridge knew about Tori and hunter because he had seen them on Sydney’s apartment balcony a few times. So, when Sydney breaks up with Hunter and is in need of a place to stay, Ridge offers her the spare bedroom at his place with his two other roommates. After Sydney moves in, secrets are revealed and a love triangle is formed. The question is, who will he choose?
